Don was born on December 7, 1928, in Chapman to Lloyd "Tom" and Elsie
(Banish) Stalker. His grandmother, Tillie Banish, assisted with the
delivery. He graduated from Archer High School in 1946 and began his career
with Western Electric, a career that would last more than 40 years, on
December 13, 1946. Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy on October 3, 1950, and
attended boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Air Station in Chicago. After
graduation from boot camp, he was stationed at Alamitos Naval Air Station in
Oakland, California. Don completed two nine-month tours in the Korean War
aboard the USS Philippines and was discharged on July 15, 1953. Including
active service in the Naval Reserves, Don served for six years. On Don's
father's birthday, July 19, 1958, he married Lorraine A. Wais. After leaving
the Navy, Don went back to work for Western Electric in Lincoln and was
transferred to the Omaha location in 1958. Don retired at age 59 on January
23, 1987 from AT&T, which had taken over Western Electric.
Don was a charter member of Faith Westwood United Methodist Church in
Millard, which was formed in 1967. He was also a charter member of the
Millard VFW Post #8334 for 48 years, which was started in Don's and

was also a member of the Millard American Legion Post #374. He enjoyed
rebuilding antique cars and was especially proud of his 1939 President
